It’s a Dirtsurfer world.

Riders around the world are joining the Dirtsurfer Riders Map on Frappr.com. Thanks to the blokes over in the U.K. who started this mapping forum to bring Dirtsurfer riders together. Great idea.

It’s cool to see where everybody is located and where the hot spots are. Go ahead and join by adding yourself to the map.

Check out the cool slide show crawl at the bottom of the page, too. You can upload your own cool Dirtsurfer pics and it’s all FREE.

If you are on MySpace, you can easily invite your riding buddies to join and you can even embed the map in your blogs.

Have fun and hook up for some sweet rides.
Cheers,
Brian

Thank you to everyone in the U.S., the U.K. and Canada who worked so hard to get their demo video clips submitted for the Mexico T.V. commercial.

You all did a fantastic job and deserve proper recognition. Special thanks goes to Rob Turman and his son Chase and daughter Hope for their continued dedication to the sport. Also a special thanks to Nick and Sarah-Beth for their committment and willingness to risk life and limb. We hope your wounds heal quickly.

I heard back from ADN Films late last night and they have made their selection… drum roll, please…
Scott Schneider – Cananda Pro Team
Mad Mike – Canada Pro Team
Mathew Couture – Canada Pro Team
Jeremy Bresciani – Dirtsurfer Canada Managing Partner

They also changed the dates to July 4th and 5th for the shoot. From this point on I am out of contact with the production as Jeremy picks it up from here. I know that they will do a fantastic job.

ADN has promised me a copy of the finished commercial when it’s ready. I’ll post it on here when I get it. In the meantime, here are shots of the actual storyboard that the company is using to map out the action and camera angles.

A number of the shots require a Dirtsurfer rider to also handle the camera. I tried this using my own very small but expensive DVD camera and it’s harder than it looks. Riding off-road AND shooting good video isn’t going to be easy. I can’t wait to see the results, though. It should look fantastic.

Since much of this effort was last minute and a rush job, I propose that we assemble a video archive of our best riders doing their best stunts and post the rider’s hourly “for hire” pay rate for companies who want to hire riders to perform in future commercials. This way, when we get contacted by a film company we can send them to the video archive and they can see what they want and make their selection from there. If we do this, the videos will all look more professional and we’ll have time to plan out what we do in the video.

Let me know if you would like to be included in this “Dirtsurfer For Hire” video archive. Also let me now if you would be interested in being included as a Media / News contact for the sport so that local news agencies can contact you for a story and to appear on t.v. demonstrating the sport. To be included, send me your contact information and links to your best video clips. You can e-mail me at brian@dirtsurfer.com

I spent Saturday in the park watching Rob, Chase, Hope, Nick and Sarah-Beth attempt their stunts as they get ready for the Mexico trip.

Even though no animals were harmed in the making of this video, everybody else was… as you will see. (4.57 meg)

The worst crash was Nick’s face plant into the ground. You notice he didn’t get up right away. That one scared me but he managed to shake it off after he regained consciousness… and got his breath back. He says he doesn’t remember the crash… which makes Nick the poster boy for wearing protective gear… like a helmet.

The next really good crash is Sarah-Beth flying off of her Dirtsurfer and smacking her ribs into the landing ramp. OUCH! She got up but had the wind knocked out of her, too. That’s one tough girl.

Even Rob… the old guy in the bunch took some serious abuse trying to land his jump. Keep in mind that this is an especially difficult jump because it’s a downhill slope into a flat landing with no transition. The Dirtsurfers kept digging their noses into the ground everytime the jumper failed to get the front up.

We do not recommend that you try these stunts at home. These people have been riding and jumping for years.

Hope you enjoy the video. Man, that’s gotta hurt!
Cheers,
Brian

O.k. We’re getting down to the wire and it’s starting to look like American Idol.

If you want a chance at being chosen to appear in the t.v. commercial riding your Dirtsurfer then you need to do the following…
1. You need to shoot some video of yourself doing the biggest jumps you can do AND you need to do some power slides where you throw lots of dirt kicking up lots of dust. Just do those two things on video.

2. Upload your video to Google Video and send me the link ASAP along with your clothing sizes and body measurements and full name.

The producer and director of the commercial will be reviewing the videos this weekend and will notify me of their decision on who’s getting an expense-paid trip to Mexico to be in the commercial.

E-mail the video link to brian@dirtsurfer.com ASAP.
Have a great weekend and good luck.

Cheers,
Brian

ADN Films and Saatchi & Saatchi Mexico are looking for experienced Dirtsurfer riders to appear in their chocolate milk commercial.

You must be available to fly to Mexico City on June 24th and return on the 28th. You must be able and willing to do some fairly standard Dirtsurfer stunts like jumps, powerslides, high speed downhill, off-road in rugged terrain, etc.

We have a group of five riders going now but they want more if they can get them. There is no age or size restriction. What they want are riders who can make the Dirtsurfer look even more exciting on T.V.

You’ll need to bring your own Dirtsurfer to ride and your own protective gear. ADN Films is paying all the expenses including flights, hotels and food. Let me know what pay you require so that I can get this info to ADN right away.

For details, contact me immediately at brian@dirtsurfer.com

Cheers,
Brian

The global ad agency of Saatchi & Saatchi is working to bring Dirtsurfer to Mexico.

They contacted me this morning asking if I could arrange for a group of about 4 riders to bring 50 Dirtsurfers to Mexico for a demo tour. The demo tour would begin in August and hit five major cities in northern Mexico. Each stop would last about a week. So, that means we need to be prepared to spend about a month south of the border.

Sounds like fun. I know we get a number of requests for Dirtsurfers from the Latin American countries. Extreme sports are very popular there.

It just so happens that my wife and my oldest son can both speak a bit of Spanish and both ride Dirtsurfers. Hopefully we can all go down together for a couple of weeks and then swap out with another group of riders.

Looks like a great opportunity to expand our market for the sport. Who knows… just might see a Team Mexico at the next IGSA World Championships.

Cheers,
Brian

We were recently contacted by ADN Films in Mexico City about providing some kids who can ride Dirtsurfers as stunt doubles in a chocolate milk commercial.

I said I’d look into it. They wanted the kids to pass for 10 to 13 year olds. Hmmm… that’s a bit more difficult. Most people I know who ride are pretty big, even the kids. So I contacted the only full family of inline boarders I know, the Turman family.

I called Rob and asked if he could help me round up some kids who would be willing and able to go to Mexico to ride Dirtsurfers in a commercial. I needed two boys and two girls. They need to be able to ride off-road, do jumps and power slides.

Fortunately, his kids have managed to get their friends into the sport and they were all excited about the opportunity. I spoke with the producer at ADN Films to clear up some questions and she asked me to submit a video of the kids so they could find actors to match our riders. Here is the video of Chase Turman, Hope Turman, friend Nick and dad Rob doing their thing on Dirtsurfers.

As it stands now, the shoot is scheduled for June 24th through the 27th. We’re hoping the new Flexi Freestyles will be in by then so that everybody will have sweet new rides and matching Dirtsurfer brand protective gear.

This should be alot of fun. Can’t wait. We’ll all get back in time to head to the beach on vacation for the 4th of July Holiday week. If we do the commercial, I’ll post it here.

Buenos dias, amigos.
Brian
