Many changes are in the works for KiteWing enthusiasts here in North America so says Action Sports Enterprises Official Supplier for the Wings in North America. The Canadian Division is reporting record sales of the this hybrid sail. Many of the existing pilots of the Wing will be  tuning them up getting ready for the ice to form on their favorite lake or pond.

 

The Wing has been and is very popular with the Dirtsurfer but it dosent stop there…your favorite snowboard and a kite just saved you hundreds of dollars in lift tickets at your local ski resort. Why bother paying all of that money when the Wing can Wisk you farther than any 12 minunte run down some of the hills that are out there…

 

Not that the Wings are inexpensive…a wing can normally run you about $1,200.00 but in the long run its worth every penny you will scrimp and save to own one.  They are reportedly so easy to learn to use that the average wind entusiasts has it mastered in around 20 minutes. Dont tell your local IKO or PASSA Kite instructor that…they wont be making the hundreds of dollars off of you for training….Ideally the kites are priced right in around the same price as many of those other brands of kites anyway…

 

One of the big sellers for the Wing is that they are a go anywhere kind of product. Other kites are restricted to large open fields or bodies of water. Not so with the Wing, its no strings attached approach to enjoying windy areas is that it isnt encumbered by over head wires or trees to get caught up in.

Dirtsurfers Have Arrived

 We’re excited that the last of the inventory has finally arrived an Action Sorts Enterprises will pick it up from the loading docks tomorrow at 10 am. Already half of the inventory has been sold and will be going off to a Mexican distributor for November.  So if you are reading this from down in Mexico then you will have to get inline to get your inline boards from them www.ecomextreme.com

 

Action Sports Enterprises has advised us that some of the boards will be making history and will be enroute to British Columbia where the Canadian National Snowboarding team will be checking them out for off season fun and training. So stay tuned for some interesting information on that scenario.

TNT is Creating A Blast.

Our friends over the pond there in the UK have been asking about the production of Dirtsurfers…As you have seen by the previous Inline Boarder article about the TNT (The Next Thing) it has caused quite an explosion in a re-interest in the sport.

 

Action Sports Enterprises is actively seeking investors to assist in the production aspects of the board. From proto type, manufacturing tooling, material,  the costs are constantly rising so they are anxious to proceed as best that they can with moving forward to the actual production of the ‘The Next Thing”

 

We are all anxious to see the sport live on. We know that the sport does live through those thousands of enthusiasts that already own any one of the models from earlier productions. We know that some of those ardent supporters know people in the know, those with deep pockets and the same vision that all of the riders have about the continuation of the sport.

 

Although its a downhill sport there is no where else that an investors profits can go other than up..

The Next Thing

 I recently had the occasion that I have been waiting for since early 2002 and that was to finally touch base with the genius behind Dirtsurfer, Graeme Attey.

Graeme and I quickly got to work on discussing what has or hasn’t been going on with Dirtsurfer since the whole scenario with the factory demanding and doubeling the international order.

During our conversation  Graeme dusted off the drawings and a few pictures of an old proto type that he had completed some 5 years ago.  The design is a huge improvement to the old model dirtsurfers.  I fondly recall my old pig of a dirtsurfer rooting its nose into the ground on many occasion and throwing me ass over tea kettle into what ever surface I was on whether it be pavement after running into an extra high curb..or on a mountain biking trail where the earth swails were to steep of a drop or incline to allow the front nose of the board  to easily traverse or make it over.

TNT info Here it is…Appropriately named TNT or The Next Thing.  Now we are busy making another actual physical model of the board and are getting factories to requote.

Not Being Held Ransom

We would like to order 300 boards please. was the call that was put into the manufacturer several months ago.

The reply was immediate although suspected in broken english…you not order 300 you order 600

Confused the request was then resent for the order of 300 boards…the same message…you order 600. It was apparent now that the manufacturer wanted to double the order. It would appear that we were being held ransom by the manufacturer on our standard order.

Dan Hill the US President of Action Sports Enterprises was delivered the sad news from Dirtsurfer International that production would not go through unless they doubled their order! Dan then spoke with Brent over in Canada who holds the Canadian distribution rights for Dirtsurfer, asking if its possible to sell an additional 300 boards this session.

Could this be the end of Dirtsurfer? Would the greed from the overseas manufacturer put a kibosh on years of enjoyment and future enjoyment of Dirtsurfers everywhere? A quick meeting between Hill and Johnson was necessary in order that the future of the sport be preserved.  They both concluded that they weren’t going to be held ransom by some Oriental manufacturing firms greed.

Hill and Johnson agreed that manufacturing needed to be addressed. With the downturn in the economy and jobs at a precious commodity they soon agreed to take their business from the orient to North America. Now the decision was Canada or USA for a location for manufacturing. Tenders were put out to various companies in Michigan and Ontario. Michigan proved to be the most responsive and a company was selected.

Now everything is in place from the Manufacturing end all that is needed is seed capital to get the productions underway. rigorous sales efforts on presales have been started and already Ski Hills in Michigan are leading the way with orders and other entrepreneurs in Ontario are placing orders.  So would be Dirtsurfers step up to the plate and be the first to own a made in the good ole’ USA Dirtsurfer.

Dirtsurfer May No Longer Be Available But Riders Still Enjoy the Sport

It has been well over a year since I last posted on this sports blog because I am no longer involved in the company and no longer have access to important insider info.

However, I still love my Dirtsurfer Flexi Pro Downhill and go riding whenever I can. In fact, I was out riding over the weekend. The weather was perfect.

I asked how the guys at Wingsurfer (over in the U.K.) were doing with the sport. Tim and Simon both responded with enthusiasm. Seems the sport is still very much alive for the hard-core riders. Simon says there’s a new riding spot being built with the Dirtsurfer in mind and will be opening soon near his home.

I know the guys still organize their Out To Grass event each year with plenty of good times for all.

Last I heard about Jeremy (the Canadian Dirtsurfer dealer)… he has moved on to selling his art. Seems he’s quite good at drawing and has a little studio for doing portraits. Good luck to Jeremy and the whole Dirtsurfer team in Canada.

Rob Turman, aka Papa Surf, has opened a very successful fitness center in Rocky Mount, Virginia with his beautiful wife, Pam.

Chase Turman, aka Crash, has joined the Air Force and will be reporting for duty in December. Best wishes to Chase.

I’ll see if I can catch up with Tom Whalen up north at Whalen Gravity Sports to see what he’s up to. The last time I saw Tom, he had just won the Bronze at Top Challenge in Montreal.

I’m pretty sure Nihat is still pushing Dirtsurfer in Germany and Bob and the guys are still riding over in Russia.

As for me… I’m doing internet consulting work and web video production. Business is booming and life is good.

IGSA Rock & Roll Gravity Race Registration Now Open

Registration for Rock & Roll 2008 in Thalgau, Austria (near Salzburg) is now open. The event will be held July 23-26 on the fastest course of the IGSA World Cup Series circuit. Go to www.gravitysportsaustria.org/rnr08/index.php to sign up. Entry is being limited to the first 175 riders who register. After that you will be placed on a waiting list.

Once you have signed up you will need to send your registration fee of 160 EUR via Bank transfer within two weeks to guarantee your place. Additional classes are 20 EUR each with three classes max.
